Your honesty in facing and writing about your angst and thoughts is so refreshing and relatable. Obviously I’m also the 50+ age box! But it’s not a box. It’s a freedom path to finally be able to allow yourself to be heard. To be you. To not let anything that doesn’t agree with your true self matter. And you are rocking on that path Arti and your writings give me the impetus to think about, face at times and fight all of this within me too! There's so much I want to say in resp...Hi Arti. There's so much I want to say in response to this post. Not as a response, but more of a resonance. Let me start with age. I totally get this feeling about starting late. But every time I look back at my life, I know I grew up a little less privileged and a little less adventurous to take up the creative route. There are so many stories but I'll only narrate one. After graduation, when I filled up the form for NSD, because I loved theatre, my father's immediate reaction was to ask if I was even serious about my life. (I love my dad, he gave me a good life) but this idea of turning your passion or hobby into a profession was alien to them. So, in that sense, I feel proud of doing what I am right now. I quit teaching when I was 37 and at 43 today, I'm slowly climbing up. The advantage of being on this side of the 'age game' is that there is no pressure. I don't want to prove myself to anyone, I just want to have fun. Yes, rejections do put me down, and specially when the younger lot seem to be getting it right. I tried to incorporate my learnings into my writing so that I could ace the submission game but that made writing seem like a chore. So I'm back to my own style and I feel great in my skin. If they like my work, great. If they don't I like it nonetheless. I'm open to learning but I don't want it to become an exam. Am I ranting too much? Or is it a lot of gyan? I love what you write Arti. It comes with no baggage and it's so free, like unzipping of countless emotions. I got a great song that I'm going to share with you. And yes, you're great with the hustle on Instagram. Let it be all the hustle or whatever. I also know talking/writing about stuff that pinches is the best way I can sort through the murkiness and get clarity about myself and the world I live in. The root of the problem arises when 'results' and not the 'work' becomes the focus of art/expression etc. It happens. I get muddled. I also feel that every age/generation has a lot to offer and learn from each other. And like all the wise people who've lived before have said, be you--the authentic you. This is a part of me, too-- this naaraazgi with the system --then I dust it off and 'keep on keeping on'--like Yamini said above:) Thank you once again for taking the time to read and comment. It only knows to create, weave words. To tick 50+ on a firm is a privilege many don't have. Whatever form you filling for, be assured they will take you more seriously than under 50s. They know this person comes with experience and will have much more to say/ share than GenX or Z. It should encourage you not देते you or question your abilities. Would love to sit down and discuss this. Very few women discover themselves after they think they fine with their " duties" . You the lucky one. Particularly when, quite often, on the very same forms one's date of birth has been entered.

As for such on a form for writing and creativity, surely a simple 'child/youth/adult/elder' catergory would be all that is required? Assuming it aids the assessment of the works. Sigh... so yes, I understand your rant today! That said, it most definitely ought not to be preventing your submissions or stymieing your creativity. Keep on keeping on! YAM xxYamini MacLeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18383916589808462620noreply@blogger.com
